Year 4/5 A
This half term we have been studying the topic of ‘Commitment to Social Justice and Equity’ through slavery
We started the half term with a ‘WOW’ day looking at slave music and art. Through history sessions we have explored the Triangle of Trade, the life of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad.
In English we have been reading the book ‘Oh Freedom’ which led to us creating our own slave adventure stories, where our main character escaped to freedom in Canada. We used the book to explore freedom quilts in Art and created symbols through collage which would have been used to help fleeing slaves on the Underground Railroad to Canada.
In Maths we have been exploring place value and the four operations moving on to worded 2 and 3 step problems.
4/5A have made an excellent start to the term and are thoroughly enjoying our topics.
